Foodi Philosophy
We are here to create a “foodi scool”. We want to relieve parents and educators from anxiety around meal times, from introducing new foods, and we want to let you focus on educating and raising healthy children so they can thrive from their education.
Food is Cool is backed by science, and challenges societal norms that create a negative relationship with food, including telling children that food is good or bad, or a treat, to finish what's on their plate, rewarding behaviour with food, or that they can't have dessert before they finish their dinner.
We want to create more 'foodis' in the world, who have a positive relationship with food, for life. We want to help everyone learn about, and experience food, in a whole new way through practical and simple tips! A holistic approach is essential to create a culture where everyone is empowered to choose foods and beverages that nourish their bodies, their minds and their souls. The focus is more on the how and less on the what. You won’t find ‘eat your veggies cause it’s healthy’ in Food is Cool. We put a strong emphasis on empowering the children's sense of agency and self to help them become aware of their bodies and bodily functions.
Documentation, programming and planning are non-negotiables in centres/schools. The Food is Cool Program supports your centre/school’s documentation cycles around meeting children's well-being needs, as an important aspect of the Early Years Learning Framework. It links to many of the guidelines and the principles, practices and learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework. It will inspire you to find alternative links as you go through the learning opportunities and through our suggested extensions.
We believe that nutrition education in schools & early learning needs:
A simple yet refreshed and innovative approach
To be practical and backed by science, which greatly differs from social norms and knowledge
To be holistic, involving parents/caregivers, staff and the community
To have a shared language that is positive
To be ‘real’, with the use of real food images, real language and real research!
All-inclusive, providing educators and parents/caregivers everything that they need
